Short bio
Albert de la Fuente is a self-taught composer and industrial engineer. He grew up in a family without any musical tradition in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona province), and his musical training consists of only some piano lessons with Assumpta Breda from ages 16 to 18.
At the age of 19 he began to study harmony and composition on his own, in tandem with his engineering degree. Currently, he combines his vocation as a composer with his jobs as a mechanical engineering consultant and as a professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
His music indistinctly mixes influences from academic and popular art; generally consisting of a marriage of classical structures, folk or jazz inflections, and 20th-century aesthetics. His language is broadly tonal (or modal), but unafraid of dissonance or extreme chromaticism.
His works have been performed at Palau de la Música Catalana and in concerts organized by Banda del Prat, Orquestra Styria and Cor Albada. His Youtube channel boasts over 2,400 subscribers.
He has been awarded 3 first prizes and an honorable mention in the II Composition Contest of Cors Joves de Catalunya (Barcelona, 2020), and a first prize in the VII Sant Antoni Composition Contest (Barcelona, 2020).
